I am currently a senior at N.C. State University studying mechanical engineering and looking forward to graduation in May 2021. To really introduce myself, I’ll start from the beginning. I’m a Charlotte native with a household split between the Clemson Tigers and UNC Tarheels. Until, of course, we had the Wolfpack thrown into the mix. I have two sisters and they would both agree I am the quintessential middle child. My hobbies range from reading and cycling, to embroidery and painting. It’s a mixed bag and I’ll probably have a new hobby next week.

I chose N.C. State because there are 18 engineering majors to choose from and the “big school” atmosphere drew me in. After a short stint in Paper Science & Engineering my first semester, I switched over to the Mechanical Engineering Department. It took a lot of research to narrow down this decision, since at the time, my interests could go in 20 different directions. To me, mechanical engineering was the best major to figure out how the world really worked. Over the past couple of semesters, my hardest classes, like Automatic Controls and Fluid Mechanics, ended up being some of my favorites.

As for work experience, for two consecutive summers I was an engineering intern for Microban International in Huntersville, North Carolina. I worked in the Liquid Formulations and Materials Engineering laboratory where I collaborated with a R&D team of textile and chemical engineers solving treatment application issues for clients like Nike and Under Armour. In both internships, I kept a detailed laboratory notebook and drew conclusions to further research on their respective projects. I’ve also had the unique opportunity to work in the only space laboratory at N.C. State in the Engineering Mechanics & Space Systems Laboratory. As an undergraduate research student, I worked on a sub-project for our novel cylindrical wind-powered rover and took it from initial concept to a working prototype.

Outside of school and homework, I’ve been a part of Sigma Kappa Sorority for over 3 years now and held two leadership roles on executive council. In 2018, I was elected as VP of Communication and Operations where I developed strong leadership and time management skills. In 2019, I was elected as Executive Vice President and was responsible for the self-governance of our chapter through Standards Council. Being a part of this organization has allowed me numerous opportunities to volunteer, stay engaged in my community, and mentor younger members of my sorority.

With experience in R&D and product development, with multiple leadership roles in the past, I am excited for what’s to come after graduation and looking forward to new beginnings.
